Last night (Sunday), my Vice President, Ron Hobbs and I, had the honour of representing SAJSA at the Noarlunga and Districts Junior Soccer Association, presentation night. The main reason for our attendance was to present “joint runner up” medals to the Fleurieu, Under 13 girls team. Due to an incident that happened in their last game on Sunday, in Mildura, they were robbed of the possibility of finishing as runner up in their age group. The team they played against, fielded their Under 16 Goalkeeper in that game, who from all reports played an outstanding game. Fleurieu went into this game knowing they had to win by an 8 goal margin to achieve their goal. This should have been easily achievable, given previous results against this team by others in this age group. This came to my attention late on Sunday night and Monday morning long after the presentation. Whilst the opposing team had legitimate reasons for changing their Goalkeeper it was done without approval from SAJSA. This then meant that a forfeit should be applied but this would penalise Fleurieu even further. I then sent it out to my Executive Board members giving them 3 alternatives to resolve the situation. They came back with a large majority vote, determining that Fleurieu should be awarded “joint runners up” with Limestone Coast. who were presented in Mildura. Fortunately we were able to obtain duplicate medallions and a plaque in time for last nights presentation, allowing us to present the girls.
Congratulation Fleurieu Under 13 Girls.
